Recently we have started a drive to raise some funds to replace some things in the Oasis that are starting to fall apart. International Teams has owned the building for 25 years and the guess is that the building stood 25 years before that as a grocery store, making the buidling close to 50 years old. We have done little things like replacing the sign and painting a few rooms.
But we need a new heater and new windows to keep the Oasis warmer in winter which will cost a few Euros so we are looking for some donations to put towards that.
But I guess if you are reading this you may be more interested in my this guy is holding up a toliet bowl?
We noticed on Monday that the Loo was a little wobbly. We have only one toliet for the refugees and we serve lots of cuts of coffee over a program. Over the 25 years the toliet must have been used millions of times and with some Refugees coming from squatting cultures, the toliet was on its last legs. Some people wanted to close the loo for the day and redirect the refugees to the staff toliet upstairs, a logistical nightmare I thought. The Loo flushed with no spillage so I hoped for one more coffee day before we needed to replace the loo. Midway through the day someone was cleaning the toliet and when he went the flush came the flood. The loo didn't quite make the day.
We hope that there is a replacement toliet before our next program. I will keep you posted.....
