TEAM = Together Everyone Accomplishes More. This is a good thought regarding how a team works together that we recently discussed with our Oasis team. And it’s true as each person brings strengths to the team that when used well, blend together to form a good-functioning unit. The effect is further enhanced when we work together with the local churches.
We saw this demonstrated again just last week. Our dear friend M. from an East European country could hardly contain her joy as she bubbled this story out to us at church. She had spent time with 3 people who had recently visited the Oasis, all Gypsy men who spoke her language. One of the men, who had been all over Europe looking for asylum, had recently been released from an Austrian immigration detention facility. Upon his release he felt hopeless, having no money or other resources. As he told M., he would either have to steal or beg in order to live. He and his friends stopped by the Oasis. It was a clothing room day but, unfortunately, not for men. Still, some of the Oasis staff came out and greeted them warmly, asked how they were doing, listened to their story and, as they went on their way, one of the workers slipped some money into the young man’s hand.
In M.’s words, this young man “wept like a child” as he told her his story. He said that the only place where he and his friends had been accepted and loved was at the Oasis. They were deeply moved that the Oasis staff welcomed them warmly and didn’t treat them differently because they were Gypsies.
M. continued her story with joy telling how these 3 people she talked with gave their hearts to Messiah, deciding to follow Him.
