A NEW VOLUNTEER

Serving at the programs at the Oasis are many many VOLUNTEERS ranging from those who live locally and come on a regular basis to those who come from far away to stay 2 weeks to 6 months. I would like to introduce you to one new volunteer. This summer she served at several Coffee Haus evenings where she has helped bring coffee to refugees, pick up dirty cups, and she enjoyed playing chess, checkers, doing puzzles with refugees or simply coloring at the table we have pages for refugees to color. When there were small children, this volunteer really enjoyed playing with them even when they did not have a language in common. At the end of the Coffee Haus evening, our new volunteer was thrilled to be able join in with cleaning duties such as sweeping and moping the floors, or cleaning the sinks, putting chairs away or washing the front windows.

Every person who serves at the Oasis has talents and gifts God has given them. AND every person who serves has limitations, or jobs they are not as good at, or jobs they simply cannot do. Limitations do not have to inhibit abilities, praise the Lord!

This new volunteer cannot speak Farsi, which is spoken by many refugees we meet, but she can speak both English and German, which can be helpful. She cannot operate the video players we use to show the Jesus film to refugees on Coffee Haus nights. She cannot carry on deep theological discussions with refugees, though she can and does pray for refugees earnestly. She cannot carry a huge tray of coffee or tea, but she can carry individual cups. She cannot win at chess, but she can play for fun.

This new volunteer we had this past summer is not inhibited by what she cannot do. She does what she can and is excited when we give her jobs to do.

She has really enjoyed serving at the Oasis this past summer.

Now it is time for school to start.

She will not be able to serve at the Oasis on school nights.

This new volunteer is our daughter, Anja.

This new volunteer is eight years old.

When will YOU come to serve at the Oasis? Are there jobs you CANNOT do? We understand…it is the same with all of us.

Are there ways you CAN serve? Great, come and join us!
