The Silhouette

She was across the road, talking on the public phone.
The translucent Advertisment behind her only showed me her Silhouette.
I could see that she was a Chechen woman, with her two kids waiting beside her as she was on the phone. Possible to Cechnya.
And I got to thinking how lonely she must be, to be so far away from her family.
And how if she had her way that she and her family would still be in Chechnya.
How she wished that there had not been a war fought in her country. How her town should have been rebuilt after the bombing by now. But how most of the houses were still laying in ruins.
How if things were different, if she was born a Russian / not a Chechen that she would never have come to Austria. She would never have been a refugee.
The woman puts her child on the phone, she looks about 4 years old.
And I am wondering how the Grandmother feels not seeing her Grand-daughter, only hearing her little voice through a telephone reciever. How much joy it must be for her to atleast hear that their grand-daughter can speak a little Chechen.
The mother is talking again. A few African men come by to play with the girls for a few minutes.
Then the mother hangs up the phone. Did she run out of money for the phone?
She and her daughters walk into the darkness.
